Payton Jacobson was raised in Elkhorn, Wisconsin, in the United States. He is an American wrestler. Jacobson won the gold medal at the 2022 U20 World Team Trials. He took the bronze medal at the 2022 U23 World Team Trials.

Jacobson also earned the bronze medal at the 2021 World Team Trials. He secured the silver medal at the 2021 Pan-Am Championships. Jacobson has qualified to compete at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

Payton Jacobson from the Northern Michigan Greco-Roman Wrestling program won an exciting best-of-three final match in the 87kg weight class. This victory secured his spot on the United States Olympic team. Jacobson will participate in his first Olympic games in Paris this summer.

In the earlier challenge tournament, Jacobson started with a 4-0 win over Richard Carlson in the quarterfinals. He then defeated Zac Braunagel 6-0 in the next round. The final match of the challenge tournament was a close 1-1 score, but Jacobson won against John Stefanowicz to advance.

In the championship final against Spencer Woods, Jacobson took the first round 8-2. However, Woods won the second round 5-2, forcing a decisive third round to determine the champion. Jacobson fought hard and earned a 3-1 victory in the third round, claiming the overall championship.

After qualifying for the Olympics, Jacobson shared a concern voiced on YouTube Shorts by @Fivepointmove: “In other countries, wrestlers sometimes win cadet medals but don’t fully develop until ages 18 or 19. This creates a big gap because they solely focus on Greco-Roman wrestling, while we split time between styles.”

When Jacobson turned 18 years old, he decided to go to Northern Michigan University’s National Training Site for Greco-Roman wrestling. He made this choice because other wrestlers from Wisconsin had also attended this training site before him.

How Payton started his career in Wrestling?

In 2018, Jacobson took the third-place position at the Badger State Invitational Tournament. He also got third place at the Mid-States Wrestling Classic Tournament that year.

In 2019, Jacobson won first place at the WWF Greco-Roman State Championships in the Junior 120 weight class. He also won first place at the WIAA D1 Sectional tournament held in the Elkhorn Area. Jacobson secured another first-place finish at the WIAA D1 Regional 2 tournament at Wilmot Union High School in the 113 weight class.

Jacobson’s Road To Paris

From 2020-2021, Jacobson took third place at the World Team Trials Tournament. He also got third place at the U20 Open competition. Jacobson secured another third-place finish at the Senior U.S. Open event. He won the title of Junior National Champion in the 60 kg weight class. Jacobson earned a Silver Medal at the 2021 Pan-Am Championship.

In 2021-2022, Jacobson was the first-place winner at the U20 World Team Trials. He placed third at the U23 World Team Trials and was named to the USAW National Team. Jacobson also took third place at the World Team Trials Challenge Tournament. He received the Team Newcomer Award.

In 2023, Payton Jacobson earned a spot on the U23 World Team, showing his wrestling skills. He had success by winning the Bill Farrell Memorial International event. His great performance at the Bill Farrell event led to Jacobson qualifying for the 2024 Paris Olympic Team Trials. His victory there allowed him to make the Olympic team.
